The Level of Psychological Immunity Among Women with Breast Cancer in Taif City and Its Relationship to Selected Demographic and Clinical Variables

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of psychological immunity among women with breast cancer in Taif City and to examine differences in the level of psychological immunity according to age group and duration of diagnosis. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher adopted the descriptive method. The sample consisted of 120 women with breast cancer, who were purposively selected from patients attending oncology centers and the healthcare facilities included in the study in Taif City. The Psychological Immunity Scale developed by Al-Maliki (2019) was administered after being adapted to suit the clinical context of the study. The results showed that the level of psychological immunity among the participants was moderate, with an overall mean of 2.95 and a standard deviation of 0.773. A one-sample t-test indicated that the difference between the overall mean and the hypothetical mean of the scale (3.00) was not statistically significant, t(119) = −0.674, p = 0.502. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were found in the level of psychological immunity, either at the level of the scale dimensions or the total score, according to age group or duration of diagnosis, at the significance level of α = 0.05.
