Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of productive thinking and cognitive motivation among prospective chemistry teachers at the Faculty of Education, University of Taiz, and to determine the nature of the relationship between them. The study employed a descriptive correlational design. The sample consisted of 30 male and female students enrolled in the Chemistry Department, selected purposefully. Two instruments were used: a productive thinking skills test and a cognitive motivation scale. The results revealed a high level of productive thinking among the participants, with critical thinking skills ranking first, followed by creative thinking skills. Similarly, the level of cognitive motivation was high, with cognitive engagement ranked first, followed by curiosity, cognitive development, and challenge. The findings also indicated a positive correlation between cognitive motivation and productive thinking skills. Based on the results, several recommendations and suggestions were proposed.
